Windows 8 And IE10 Combo Results In Four Times Faster MSN Portal

You may recall Microsoft launched a very special version of its MSN portal a couple of days before the launch of Windows 8. The website donned a design that was clearly inspired by Redmond’s latest operating system that brought it in line with Windows 8.
But there were several improvements under the hood that were supposed to help it load faster.

It seems that Redmond’s efforts are now paying off. A study conducted by an independent firm shows that MSN for Windows 8 not only loads faster than previous version of the portal, but also leaves other Internet news portals in the dust when it comes to performance.

The research was performed by Principal Technologies Inc., which shows that MSN for Windows 8 is around four times faster than eight top major online competitors — including sites like CNN, New York Times, WSJ and Forbes.
Comparing specific sections of the portal, the study found that the Sports page on MSN loaded an impressive 7 times faster than websites like ESPN and NFL, while the News category boasted a load time that at least 3 times quicker than both CNN and New York Times.
Obviously, several factors are at play when it comes to website load times, particularly content heavy destinations like the ones name above.

Android images with clickable areas

What is android? This is a simple question but the answer is quite complicated. If you go deeper on the word “android”, we will get lot of answers for the question what is Android. To answer in a simple way

Android is an operating system for Mobile phones.

Android images with clickable areas”
If we want to display an image in Android with clickable areas we can usemethod that involves overlaying a hotspot image on top of the real image being displayed. The overlay image has exactly the same size as the first image. It uses different coloured regions  to indicate the hotspots.

For Example:-
Let’s start with what the app looks like when you touch the screen. Circles appear that indicate roughly where the clickable regions on the screen are. When you touch one of the regions, the image changes. For example, when you touch the image near the end of the space ship, the app changes to make it look like you started the space ship.
Touching the image a second time, returns you to the initial view of the app, which is the first picture without the orange circles showing.
The way this app is set up with a Frame View and Image View gives you an easy way to handle scaling. I used a 800 x 480 image for this demo app. It scales automatically to all screen sizes, and it is high enough resolution that it looks good on a tablet. Here’s what it looks like in a portrait orientation.

In a real app, you might disallow portrait orientation because it has a very small usable view. I left it in for testing reasons. I wanted to know that the image and the hotspot image were scaling correctly.

Working
This takes place in 2 steps:-
1.    Getting the layout just right so the images would scale correctly on all Android devices and tablets.
2.    Getting the clickable regions to work and also to scale automatically.

The second image exactly has the same size as the first one. It uses different coloured regions to indicate the Hotspots. The main layout for this app uses a Frame View. It is defined to fill up the entire screen. Within it are two image views. Views defined this way in a Frame View share the space of the frame. The second one appears on top of the first one.
There is a lot going on in this method:
(1) The coordinates of the touch point come from the event object. The coordinates are relative to the view.
(2) Given the coordinates of the touch, we look up the colour of a pixel at the corresponding point in the mask image (the one with the coloured rectangles). The layout rules for a FrameView and identically sized images ensure that the points correspond.
(3) The colour for point is not necessarily the exact colour value we used in the hotspot image. The reason for this is that the colours could change a bit as the image is scaled.
“Conclusion
A simple way of adding clickable regions and take full advantage of Android’s handling of different screen sizes and orientations. We do not find much overhead for the second image. For simple transitions from one activity to another, this method works out well.

Semantic Markup Strategies For Local Business Websites

One of the least-tapped areas of local business website optimization continues to be semantic markup. It increases chances that information from your website will be highlighted in search engine results pages via rich snippets, attracting greater attention and clickthroughs.
While special markup likely may not directly improve your rankings in search, it does apparently increase clickthrough rate or “CTR”, as consumers are more drawn to your site’s listings. Just this increase in CTR alone could benefit your rankings over time, as clickthroughs can influence rankings; so, there are a few reasons why semantic markup is worthwhile. This is for Google, Bing, and Facebook search, too. Only a few of these may impact your listing in the local 7-pack or in Google maps, your site can also  attract customers via the regular, keyword search results pages; and, regular listing can and do appear on the same results pages as the 7-pack!
So check to see if you’ve added the following markups to your local website (if applicable). To improve your traffic, even on search results which are not directly related to something you sell.

There are some Semantic Markup Strategies For Local Business Websites:-

Authorship Markup:- first of all best semantic markup is likely authorship – it allows your personal photo to appear with pages you author, and your website, when they are listed in search engines results. For local search, this may be even more compelling in Google, making your listing appear far more interesting and professional in the 7-pack.
To enable this to happen, you must have a Google+ profile for the business proprietor, link to it from your website including a querystring with rel=author.
<a href=”[profile_url]?rel=author”>Google</a>
Then, link back to your site from your Google+ profile in the “Contributor To” section. It’s also a good idea to have a good author for Google+.

Local Business Schema and Geotag:- you can use this to markup your address and contact information on your site, although there are additional fields you can include such as hours of operation, payment types accepted, and more.

Example Markup

Testimonial:- through this Google allows local businesses to disclose that they have a testimonial by using semantic markup for reviews, and Google sometimes will display that information in conjunction with the business’s listings in SERPs. Testimonials can increase their chances of being displayed in the snippet text beneath your listing, and in the sample text callouts shown variously in the cached images of your webpage

Breadcrumbs:- breadcrumbs can help a user orient themselves in the site’s hierarchy, and provide them with related pages that they might wish to visit. For this reason, Google began bubbling-up this data to display in rich snippets as additional links beneath the hyperlinks page name. simply from a statistical perspective, having additional links to your site on search results pages increases the odds of you having users click through overtime – so, breadcrumb links are highly desirable! Google does a fair job of automatically detecting by them in order to be displayed in the snippet. To increase your chances, use the breadcrumb markup on your site pages.

Events:- if your company participates in some events or provides special services at different times/dates during the year, you might consider incorporating the events schema markup. You don’t feel confident at doing the coding necessary; Google does give you another option for Events at this time.
In your Webmaster Tools account, Google has provided a beta service called the Data Highlighter for Events. Using the interface, you can highlight elements of events and tell Google which data item is which event element – Name, Date, Venue, Address, URL etc. if Google deems the Data Highlighter to be successful, they’ll likely expand it to include other types of rich snippets as well.

Coupons/Offers:-  if you have coupons or special offers, use the Offer Schema. Its not clear to me that Google or Bing does any special snippet treatment for coupons or offers at this time, but they included it in Schema.org, and it would make sense for them to consider incorporating it more visibly at a future date.
Video:- Google recommends that you use the VideoObjectSchema to help them to better interpret and represent your video content in search result. Consumers apparently like seeing videos of products or of businesses providing services, so this can help with conversions as well.

Recipes:- recipes get tons of searches on the net, and for that reason search engines highlight the presentation of their listings in search results. Your reason for publishing a recipe doesn’t have to be dramatic, though – just do it to interact with the web community more and your business may benefit.
Individuals:- in addition to displaying author information, you can also mark up information about executives and employees on your site as well by using the Schema for a Person.

Table & Bulleted Lists:- this is not mostly in use but if you have tabular data or content that lends itself to production in a list, providing this on your website can again make your listing in search results get more consideration, and it affords you the chance to display more info about products and services before probable customers have even reached your website. For example, this could work great for many restaurants, if they put their menu in an HTML table – preferable, compared with the Flash/PDF/image formats that many eateries use instead.

Products:-  if your business sells products, seriously consider incorporation data about them on your site and marking it up with the Product Schema. Product markup can enable your listings to show price, rating, and availability in the search results.

Meta Descriptions:- meta descriptions have been one of the earliest and longest surviving semantic markup elements. They’re possibly the most-influetial as well, since they often appear as the entire snippet text in search results. The description Meta Tag is still frequently neglected on many small business websites.

Facebook Open Graph:-  to help ensure your site’s pages are presented well in Facebook search and various interface, incorporate. Use it simultaneously with Schema.org protocol – the two do not conflict with one another. Each time you insert semantic markup, be sure to check it using Google’s structured data testing tool. So go through this checklist and add any of the semantic markup options you can, and it may help you achieve a very rosy year for your website and business in 2013

Facebook Launch a new Graph Search Engine

Social media giant Facebook has launched a new search engine for content uploaded by its users.According to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook now has three pillars, namely Newsfeed, Timeline and now Graph Search.
Zuckerberg pointed this out that. It’s not going to give your best possible results and links like a regular web search. Instead Graph search will look at phrases that you type and give you results based on what your friends have shared.

The search improvements involve the ability to ask questions in regular English, such as "which of my friends live in New York?" The search is now intelligent enough to rank your friends based on how much interaction you've had — so that closer friends will appear higher up the results list. It can also search based on stories or photos you've liked. Photos can also be ranked by which have the most Likes, based on the people most important to you in your Friends list.

Currently search will focus on Photos, People, Places and Interests. So if you want to search for say people who live in your city with the same interests like a TV show, Graph search will show you the relevant results. Every time you check into a restaurant or mall, Facebook’s Graph Search could show it to your friends if they too search for the same place.

With Facebook Graph Search, the objects we search for aren’t Web pages but instead virtual representations of real world objects: people, places and things. The connections are primarily Facebook Likes. Did such-and-such a person like a particular photo? A particular doctor? A particular restaurant? Those likes are the ties that bind the information in Facebook together. Users will also be able to search any content that any Facebook user has posted for public viewing on the site.

it will also be "integrated" with Microsoft's Bing search engine, with searches that are not available on Graph Search redirecting to Google's main internet search competitor.
It doesn't matter that Facebook search can't provide most of what Google search does: you won't get any movie times, directions, answers to who invented to jet engine, or an essentially infinite number of image results for "a cute frog."
But Facebook will give you lots of stuff Google will never be able to touch: every photo you uploaded in June 2009. A list of your friends who grew up in Kansas. A dinner pick that's gotten the FB thumbs up from people you know.

Lohri Festival

Lohri festival is celebrated mainly in northern India and is celebrated on the night before Makar Sankranti . for punjabis, more that just a festival, Lorhi is also an example of a way of life. Lohri celebrates fertility and the spark of life.
Amidst the freezing cold weather, with the temperature wobbling between 0-5 degrees Celsius and the dense fog outside, everything seems stagnant in the northern part of india. The long-awaited bonfire festivalv- when they can come out of their homes and celebrate the harvesting of the rabi(winter) crops and give in to relaxing and enjoying the traditional folk songs and dances.

On this day children go from door to door to collect funds for community bonfires which are lit up in the evening. The gatherings and celebrations make Lohri a community festival. Children also demands for Lohri ‘loot’ in the form of money and eatables like til(sesame) seeds, peanuts, jaggery, or sweets like gajak, rewri etc.
In the evening when the sun setting down , huge bonfires are lit in the harvested fields and in the front yards of houses and people gather aroung the rising flames, circle around(parikrama) the bonfire and throw puffed rice, popcorn and other munchies into the fire, shouting ”Aadar aye dilather jaye”(may honor come and poverty vanish!),  and sing popular songs. This is a sort of prayer to agni, the fire god, to bless the land with abundance and prosperity. After the parikrama, people meet friends and relatives, exchange greeting and gifts. After that bhangra dance by men begins after the offering to the bonfire, dancing continues till late night.
Lohri is fundamentally an agricultural festival filled with merry-making. It is celebrated in the state of Punjab on the 13th of January, which falls one day before Makar sankranti.

HTML5: a look behind the technology changing the web

Technology allows internet browsers to display jazzed-up images and effects that react to users’ action. Developers use HTML5 to get their creations on a variety of smart phones, tablets and PCs without couture apps for specific hardware or the online stores that have become gatekeepers to mobile commerce.
HTML5 introduces and enhances a wide range of features including form controls, APIs, multimedia, structure and semantics.
HTML5 which commented in 2004, and currently being carried out in a joint effort between the W3C HTML WG and the WHATWG. Many key players are participating in the W3C effort including representatives from the four major browser vendors: Apple, Mozila, Opera and Microsoft; and a range of other organizations and individuals with many diverse interests and expertise.

Structure

HTML5 introduces a whole set of new elements that make it much easier to structure pages,  such as headers, footers and columns and today, it is fairly common to mark them up using div elements, giving each a descriptive id for class. The use of div elements is largely because current versions of HTML 4 lack the necessary semantics for describing these parts more specifically.

There are several advantages to using these elements. When you want to mark up nested section you can use conjunction with the heading elements (h1 to h6), these provide a way to mark up nested sections with heading levels, and this is possible with previous versions of HTML.

Video and Audio

In these days, video and audio on the web has become increasingly viable and sites like YouTube, MySpace and dozens of others are making it easy for anyone to publish video and audio,  since HTML currently lacks the necessary means to successfully embed and control multimedia itself, many sites are relying on flash to provide that functionality. The new video and audio elements make this really easy.   Flash is currently the only widely deployed plug-in that provides a cross-browser compatible solution with the desired APIs for developers.
The new video and audio elements make this really easy. Although there are some video formats that support their own poster frame feature, such as MPEG-4, this provides an alternative solution that can work independently of the video format.

Document Representation

Not like previous versions of HTML and XHTML, which are defined in terms of their syntax, HTML5 is defined in terms of the Document Object Model (DOM).  The advantage of defining the HTML5 in terms of the DOM is that the language itself can be defined independently of the syntax. There are primarily two syntaxes that can be used to represent HTML documents: the HTML serialization (known as HTML5) and the XML serialization (known as XHTML5)

Designing a blog with html5

HTML5 contain some features from JavaScript APIs that make it interactive and easy to develop. But with it slide of new elements that allow you extra language related in your conventional Web 1.0 pages.
What we can do with the use of header, footer and nav elements to mark up the broad structure of the page. By the using new feature we will make the blog comments form much smarter and easier by using the new data types and built-in validation available in HTML5-aware browsers.
After  we’ll do some work on the guts of the page  using HTML5’s article elements to better mark up blog posts and comments and show how to use the section elements to better structure accessible hierarchical headings on sites that are CMS-driven. As blogs are arranged in according to order and what HTML5 offers us for dates and times.

Setting the DOCTYPE

HTML5, when used as plain HTML, even its XHTML5 its other versions doesn’t need a DOCTYPE. But all brewers do, otherwise they go into Quirks mode, which you don’t want: the crash of HTML5 and Quirk mode is like matter and anti-matter meeting, and will cause a negative reality inversion.
Some sites “use” HTML5, when in actual fact all they’ve done is take their existing code and change the DOCTYPE. That’s fine and excellent if you’ve been using valid, semantic code as HTML5 is very similar to valid HTML 4.01.
If you don’t want simply to reuse your existing code, but to use some of the new structural elements now.

Using some new structural elements

Header denoted by<div id=”header”>, a footer<div id=”footer”>, some article (wrapped by an area called “content”, <div if=”content”>) and some navigation (wrapped up in an area called “sidebar”<div id=”sidebar”>).  Mostly y sites contain similar constructs, and also depending on your choice they might be called “branding” or “info” or “menu”. In it you can use the comparable words in your own language.
These all have ver y different functions within the page, they use the same generic div in the markup. In HTML4 has no other way to code them. But HTML5 has new elements for distinguishing these logical areas: header, nav, footer and friends.

iphone

Apple held an event to formally introduce the phone on September 12, 2012. After Apple began taking per-orders on September 14, 2012, over two million were received within 24 hours. Initial demand for the iPhone 5 exceeded the supply available at launch on September 21, 2012, and has been described by Apple as "extraordinary", with per-orders having sold twenty times faster than its predecessors. After the launch of the device, Samsung filed a lawsuit against Apple, claiming that the iPhone 5 infringes eight of its patents.

The iPhone is a touchscreen-based Smartphone developed by Apple. It is the sixth generation of the iPhone and succeeds the iPhone 4S. The phone is a slimmer, lighter model that introduces a higher-resolution, 4-inch screen to the series with 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio supports. The phone also includes a custom-designed ARMv7 processor called the Apple A6, an update to Apple's mobile operating system known as iOS 6, and support for LTE.

·         2007 & 2008 :TouchFLO and arrival of Android
This year iPhone release, most of Apple’s rivals thought using a touchscreen. The only phone which came close to challenging the iPhone for popularity was the Nokia N95
This was the first year Google came on the scene with Android, and             it’s difficult not to see it’s first phone, the T-Mobile G1, without feeling sensational associations like touch & feel.

·        2009 & 2010: Making use of Palm, & The Period of Evo, Galaxy S, and Windows Phone 7

Now, things start to get serious. Palm came back on the scene with the Pre, one of the better challengers of the year thanks to its innovative operating system, but a bungled international launch, questionable build quality, and has limited public interest.
2010 was a massive year for mobile phones, but the Apple iPhone 4 stood resolute, with its impressive new design and high resolution Retina display. It was joined by a series of strong competitors such as the first Samsung Galaxy S, the Nokia N8 and the Google Nexus One.

·       2011 & 2012: Arrival of Galaxy & phone compatible to iphone
It is the time when everything got changed and Apple only has itself to blame,  iPhone 4S – a great phone that looked identical to the iPhone 4 on the outside, and at that a time customer’s and iphone lovers want some creativity and innovations.
That brings us to the final resolution, and it has taken five years for someone to realize that to kill the iPhone which clearly defines that you first needed an army, and only Samsung has managed to build one strong enough to take it on.

Samsung announced Civil Action against Apple (Litigation):

By following the  iPhone 5, Samsung announced that it was civil action against Apple for resolving disputes between them. In a statement, Samsung said, it had "little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights". Litigation between the two involving parties has been ongoing and is being fought in several court cases around the world. Apple has won preliminary injunctions against the Galaxy Nexussmartphone co-developed by Samsung. In August 2012, Apple added the Samsung Galaxy S III to a list of models it also claims infringe (violate rules) its patents.

How setup your Google Authorship for your own website

Google’s authorship verification program has the best intentions. It helps to reduce spam and duplicated content. Google find out the content creators by inserting additional images and links into search engine results for their work.

These get results from these three factors: visibility, placement and trustworthiness. Google is now searching for new ways to authenticate quality and good back links. Mostly people are doing lots of social sharing and less back linking to their website after some Google Updates (Penguin & Panda). There is the one way by which Google can find the authentic links on the Internet- through their ”Google Authorship Program”. So if you want to get traffic and higher rank for your website then its really need to you to know who wrote all that great content in your website.

Put your unique content to your Google Plus profile using your verified email address
Keep it in mind that your email is on the same domain as your content. Make sure that each article has an “Author’s Name” so that Google can judge who wrote it. Go to the Google Authorship Page and submit your email.

Create a link on your website using this tag:

<a href=”[profile_url]?rel=author”>Google</a>

After that go to your Google Plus profile ”About Page” and add your website as a site you are contributing to. Use Google’s structured data testing tool to see if everything worked out for you by entering in the url of one of your articles. It may take up to 14 days for your profile image to appear next to your articles on Google
